The forest is located 9 km north of Florac in the region of Cevennes, on the southern foothills of Mount Lozère, in the area situated between the slopes of Bondon and the valley Haute-Vallee du Tarn (toward the gorge of the Tarn River / Gorges du Tarn). Due to its geographic location, forest is subjected to extreme climate variability depending on weather conditions and season. Forest stands growing in the described area result from reforestation conducted in 1985-1986.
